He'll finish what He started

Due to my current circumstances, I've developed the habit of listening to music almost constantly. I live alone, and when the silence gets to be too much, I press play. I walk and ride public transportation, surrounded by lovely people who speak a language I do not understand, so I throw those earbuds in and listen to the soundtrack of my life. The lyrics provide the conversations I can't have and the music provides the metronome to walk, run, and dance. I usually listen to the albums I've purchased on iTunes in one giant, shuffled playlist. There are 1340 minutes of music available at the moment but I can't get enough of a specific 4 and half minutes.

"Our God is able, more than capable to be faithful to the end. He'll finish what He started." (MercyMe)

When these lyrics travel through my headphones to my ears, they don't just pass through. These words land in my heart. And as I've been meditating on the lyrics along with Philippians 1:6, I am humbled and grateful that my able, faithful God will continue the work He has begun in my life.

He began a good work in me by taking the punishment for my sin on Himself. I am forgiven and free, and yet I often choose to live unforgiven and captive. He doesn't shake His head and leave me there - He is faithful to work with the mess that is me until the day I see Him face to face. When difficulties arise and storms crash my life, I can rest in the peace that transcends all understanding because my faithful God will guide me through and use the storm to form me into the likeness of Christ. He did the same thing for every human that has walked or will walk on the planet - He sacrificed Himself so that we all may live. But sin corrupts what He started. It causes pain, suffering, and ultimately death. This world consistently rejects what He offers. But He is more than capable. The rejection doesn't weaken His ability to be faithful, actively seeking and pursuing the hearts of every soul.

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.  -  Philippians 1:6 NASB

A sweet reminder on my walk to work that no matter what that day brings, He'll finish what He started.
